Description

The Literature Foundation awards nationwide financial grants to strengthen politically relevant narrative texts and to realize larger literary-political events. Funding is provided to German-speaking authors with previously unpublished narrative works that engage thematically with analyses of power, domination, or society, as well as utopian and dystopian concepts. The Foundation also supports the conception and implementation of festivals, literary series, or symposia with a clearly identifiable political orientation. The program is exclusively aimed at natural persons who can demonstrate their literary activity in the German language and wish to realize a project within the literary-political field of tension.

The two-stage selection process begins with a funding inquiry, in which the literary preliminary work is outlined by means of an exposé (maximum two standard pages) and a reading sample (up to twenty standard pages of 1,800 characters each). Supplementary information on name, address, email, and date of birth forms the formal basis. After review, a notification of approval or rejection is communicated promptly; in the case of a positive decision, the scope and modalities of the funding amount are determined individually. Project rejections allow for a renewed application with new, original manuscripts or event concepts. Ongoing submissions are possible at any time, so that literary-political impulses are continuously supported and brought into public discussion.
