Description

The funding measure Promotion and Development of the Salzburg Natural Recreation Area supports public-law institutions, non-profit organizations, and interest groups in Salzburg in developing environmentally compatible leisure and tourism offerings. Aligned with regional strategies focusing on environmental and nature conservation, regional development, energy efficiency, and climate protection, the program contributes to strengthening rural areas. As an open-ended grant, effective since January 1, 2023, continuous funds are available to implement infrastructure and urban development projects as well as agriculture-related recreational initiatives. Beneficiaries can include territorial authorities, tourism and regional associations, as well as non-profit clubs and associations from the sports, tourism, or leisure sectors, provided the funding objectives are met.

The range of offerings extends from nature-oriented physical activities to multifunctional outdoor meeting places, thus addressing diverse target groups. Supported measures include the expansion of mountain bike routes and single trails, the establishment of climbing gardens and bouldering areas, the implementation of ski touring and freeride projects, as well as the creation of winter hiking and snowshoe trails. Additionally, landscape-compatible infrastructures—such as barrier-free rest areas, playgrounds and intergenerational parks, educational and themed trails—as well as standardized statewide signage systems can be applied for. Prerequisites include economic unfeasibility without funding, secured overall financing, and free public access. All official permits must be obtained prior to application. Eligible expenses cover actual costs as well as documented in-kind contributions based on invoices and performance records. A continuously open application process at the State Forestry Directorate within the Office of the Salzburg State Government (Department 4/02) enables flexible support for forward-looking natural recreation projects.
