Description
The state funding supports natural and legal persons in Upper Austria in switching to renewable heating systems. Funding is provided for the installation of wood chip, pellet, and log wood systems as well as electricity-generating biomass heating systems to replace fossil fuels with biogenic energy sources. With a funding rate of up to 50% of the eligible net costs, the program helps to renew outdated boilers or heat generators aged ten years or more and to increase energy efficiency. Housing developers and companies benefit equally from non-repayable grants, while local authorities and farmers are excluded. The funding not only promotes climate protection but also strengthens the regional economic cycle through local biomass supply.
For an application, type approval certificates from a state-authorized testing body, timely submission of the funding application within 18 months of invoicing, and proof of proper installation by authorized installers must be provided. Structural measures, used systems, or connection to existing local or district heating networks are excluded from funding. A minimum of €4,400 net eligible costs is required; new buildings are not considered. Interested applicants must submit the fully completed online application along with the installation confirmation by December 31, 2026 at the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government. Compliance with all guidelines is ensured through on-site spot checks and document reviews, thereby guaranteeing the long-term efficiency and environmental friendliness of the biomass heating systems.
