Funding of Permanent Exhibitions and Museums

The funding initiative of the State of Upper Austria permanently supports the establishment and further development of museums, local heritage houses, and permanent exhibitions throughout Upper Austria. Sponsors of public institutions and non-profit organizations can submit funding applications at any time to realize new museum foundations or to implement construction and museological investment projects in existing institutions. The focus is on improving the quality of both structural and content-related aspects: investment costs, construction measures, and targeted enhancements of museological presentation forms are supported with grants. The funding is provided according to the principles of the Upper Austrian Cultural Framework, the Cultural Funding Act, and the General Funding Guidelines of the state, and is oriented towards the specific criteria for museums and permanent exhibitions.

For the application, a fully completed and signed funding form, a detailed project description, and a transparent cost calculation with a coherent financing plan are required. Depending on the funding category, additional documents may be requested. The evaluation is based, among other criteria, on the alignment with the framework and funding principles, the appropriateness of the project, and the comprehensibility of the financing model. The administrative unit Directorate of Culture and Society of the Upper Austrian State Government ensures continuous processing, with the allocation of funds designed for the long term.
