Description
In Vorarlberg, municipalities receive financial support to partially cover transportation costs for compulsory school students whose school route exceeds two kilometers and for whom no public mass transportation is available. Since January 23, 2019, this indefinite funding has been available as a direct grant. The grant amount is up to 50% of the transportation costs incurred by the municipality in the previous school year, minus any cost contributions from parents and the tax office. The program thus aims to secure the mobility of young learners and provide municipalities with planning certainty for occasional transport services.
Only public institutions in the form of municipalities are eligible for funding, which must submit a written application by October 31 at the latest each year for the previous school year. Applications are submitted via an online form provided by the State of Vorarlberg. Required documents include, among others, the completed application, a confirmation from the tax authority regarding reimbursement of incurred costs, proof of parental contributions, as well as the corresponding invoices and payment receipts. Approval is granted after verification of formal requirements and cost-effectiveness. Municipalities thus benefit from reliable cost relief and can ensure demand-oriented transportation for compulsory school students.
