Funding of Research Projects (KSB Foundation)

The KSB Foundation supports innovative research projects at German colleges, universities, and non-university research institutions in the fields of natural sciences, engineering, and economic issues. The focus is primarily on projects dealing with energy, water, and raw materials, sustainably linking ecological, economic, and technological aspects. Against the backdrop of global challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, and urbanization, the foundation supports exploratory approaches to the extraction, conversion, processing, transport, and use of these essential goods. This includes studies on renewable energies—such as photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, or wind power—as well as investigations into fossil fuels, water management, or raw material cycles. Funding is provided as a grant and is designed for projects with a duration of up to 36 months.

Educational institutions and public entities initiating research projects in the mentioned thematic areas are invited to apply. Applications can be submitted continuously, as there is a flexible submission deadline. A prerequisite for approval is a scientifically sound topic in natural sciences, engineering, or economics, as well as sponsorship by a college, university, or non-university research institution. Typically, funding is granted for one year with the possibility to submit follow-up applications, provided that available funds allow. The funding aims to strengthen interdisciplinary competencies, develop innovative solutions, and contribute in the long term to supply security, environmental compatibility, and resource efficiency.
