Description
Within the framework of the broadband funding program of the State of Tyrol, Tyrolean municipal administrations are specifically supported in the development of passive fiber-optic broadband infrastructures. The program particularly targets areas lacking gigabit-capable coverage and aims to enable open network access for all market participants. The non-repayable one-time grant promotes investments in key components such as empty conduits, cable routes, and distribution networks, thereby creating the technical foundation for sustainable digitalization of infrastructure, urban development, and municipal services. Through enhanced networking, the program seeks to sustainably increase economic strength, quality of life, and resilience of the regions. The initiative thematically covers the areas of infrastructure, digitalization, and urban planning.
Eligible for funding are Tyrolean municipalities, cooperations of municipalities, and municipal associations; in exceptional cases, public companies majority-owned by municipalities may be funded, provided they act exclusively as network providers. The applicable funding rate is 50% of eligible costs, up to a maximum of €250,000 per project. A key prerequisite is the location within a previously underserved expansion area with less than gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure. The application period extends from 01.03.2024 to 31.12.2028. Detailed funding guidelines as well as application and accounting documents are available online. Proper documentation of construction and planning services is a prerequisite for the disbursement of the grant. The measure makes an important contribution to the digital sovereignty of municipalities and promotes sustainable urban and regional development.
