Description
The funding program “Support for smaller areas with self-dynamic development and Climate Wilderness Ambassadors as a contribution to natural climate protection (FRL KlimaWildnis)” supports the preservation and further development of natural areas in Germany. The focus is on maintaining self-dynamic development so that natural processes can proceed undisturbed. By purchasing smaller areas, such as deciduous or beech forests as well as peatlands, effective carbon sinks are to be created and important habitats for flora and fauna permanently secured. Additionally, ancillary costs associated with land acquisition, such as real estate transfer tax, notary and land registry fees, brokerage fees, as well as personnel expenses and material costs, are eligible for funding.
Within the framework of the program, the deployment of Climate Wilderness Ambassadors also plays a role. These local experts contribute to specifically unlocking wilderness potential, networking stakeholders, and supporting the professional implementation of projects. The Climate Wilderness Ambassadors provide advice on nature and climate protection, inform about funding opportunities, and assist in the planning and realization of measures that contribute to the sustainable development of the areas. Through the combination of land acquisition and intensive local support, the program sustainably sets the course for lasting, natural climate protection on site.
The funding requirements are aimed at public institutions and non-profit organizations based in Germany that can demonstrate the sustainable use and preservation of the respective area. Applications are submitted continuously via the Easy-Online portal, with the funding rate ranging between 95% and 100%. The program has a duration of two years and places great emphasis on economic efficiency and prudent budget management regarding the requested expenditures. With innovative funding measures and regional cooperation approaches, this initiative makes an important contribution to climate change adaptation and the preservation of biodiversity in Germany.
