Funding of commercial film productions in the state of Salzburg

The funding of commercial film productions in the state of Salzburg supports film producers with a financial grant for the realization of TV or cinema productions. The goal is to attract national and international film and TV production companies, as well as screenwriters and filmmakers, to shoot in Salzburg and to position the location as a traditional and attractive film region. Through targeted funding, not only is the local film industry strengthened, but a significant overall economic benefit for the city and state of Salzburg is also achieved. Applications must be submitted before filming begins to ensure timely approval of funding and to enable the scheduled disbursement in two installments: 50% after the start of filming and submission of all documents, and 50% after final accounting and successful broadcast or screening.

Eligible for funding are companies and private individuals who realize commercial film or TV productions with shooting days and expenses in Salzburg. Requirements include, among others, partial filming in the state of Salzburg, Salzburg expenses amounting to twice the requested funding sum, as well as proof of international marketability through a contract with a TV broadcaster or cinema distributor. The funding amounts to up to 10% of the net production costs, with 5% granted as a base subsidy and up to 5% bonus for an outstanding strengthening of the Salzburg film industry. Evaluation criteria particularly include the effects on the Salzburg film industry, the overall economic benefit for Salzburg, and international marketability. For the application, a detailed project description, cost and financing plans, screenplay, shooting list, business license, and annual financial statement are required. This funding offers producers a clear incentive to shoot in Salzburg and contributes to the long-term strengthening of the regional film location.
