Description
The Free State of Bavaria supports municipal corporations and municipally operated organizations in investment projects for the modernization, expansion, comprehensive renovation, conversion, and new construction of public tourist basic facilities in rural areas. The goal is a significant increase in overnight stays, an enhancement of the recreational value, and the strengthening of the regional economic power. Funding is provided for, among others, spa and hiking trails including rest areas, tourist information centers, conference and event rooms, as well as measures for energy efficiency and visitor flow management. The grant rate amounts to up to 50 percent of eligible expenses depending on the project and location, with a required own contribution of at least 20 percent. Innovative concepts with an ecological focus and demonstrated tourist demand are given special consideration, as are projects in structurally weak regions.
Applications can be submitted year-round to the responsible district government and require fully secured overall financing. Public accessibility, predominantly tourist use, and compliance with legal requirements for accessibility and environmental protection are mandatory. Cost-benefit analyses must be available prior to revenue-generating measures. For the application process, standard forms according to Art. 44 BayHO (Forms 1a to 4) as well as a checklist for the sustainability concept are provided. Evaluation criteria include location, financial capacity, degree of innovation, and ecological sustainability. Through the continuous funding opportunity and low de minimis thresholds, this program offers municipalities and local businesses the chance to sustainably strengthen their tourist infrastructure and create attractive long-term offers for guests.
