Funding objective
The state of Saxony-Anhalt supports the initial establishment of public and freely accessible Wi-Fi networks at publicly accessible locations in Saxony-Anhalt in order to enable citizens and visitors to access digital services as well as tourist and cultural offerings.

Description
Funding for Public Wi-Fi in Saxony-Anhalt aims at the initial establishment of freely accessible networks in publicly accessible areas of the federal state. The program targets local authorities, associations, and clubs based in Saxony-Anhalt that act as providers of public services or tourist or cultural offerings. Support is provided in the fields of infrastructure, digitalization, as well as urban development and urban renewal, and holds an important position in the expansion of digital infrastructures. Funding is granted as a proportional financing of up to 80% of eligible expenses, with a maximum of €100,000. Applications can be submitted continuously, provided they are received before the start of the planned measures. The goal is to enable citizens and visitors barrier-free access to digital as well as cultural and tourist content and to strengthen municipal infrastructure.
Conditions for approval include, among others, the absence of a comparable Wi-Fi network at the location, a minimum bandwidth of 50 Mbit/s, and support of current IEEE standards (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac or similar). Eligible costs include the acquisition and installation of access points, connection to the broadband network, necessary construction measures including material costs, as well as commissioning, configuration, and integration into a Wi-Fi management system. Ongoing operating costs are not considered. Furthermore, a sustainable usage concept must be submitted. Applications must be complete with the application form, detailed project description, De-minimis declaration, geodata form, and if applicable, an application for early commencement of measures, and will be reviewed in accordance with the Ministry’s guidelines.
