Funding of projects within the framework of the National Species Assistance Program

The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) provides sustainable funding within the framework of the National Species Assistance Program to advance nature and landscape conservation throughout Germany. Through the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), projects in the fields of environmental and nature conservation as well as energy efficiency & climate protection are supported. Non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and companies can submit applications for grants at any time. The goal is to financially strengthen initiatives, associations, scientific institutions, and other stakeholders committed to preserving biodiversity and maintaining near-natural habitats.

Funding is provided for measures that clearly comply with the BfN’s guidelines and have a distinct focus on nature conservation or landscape management. Applications can be submitted continuously—there is no fixed deadline. A prerequisite is the adaptation of project planning to the BfN’s funding modalities to ensure efficient use of funds and transparent reporting. The nationwide funding opportunity opens up a wide range of activities: from habitat improvement measures and species protection projects to environmental education offerings. Interested project sponsors receive comprehensive advice and support in designing their initiatives to achieve the shared goal of an intact and diverse native nature.
