Description

The funding program to strengthen municipal and other non-state museums in Rhineland-Palatinate offers financial support for projects related to collection care, exhibition development, and publication initiatives. Sponsors of public institutions, foundations, or non-profit organizations can apply for a non-repayable grant of up to 50% of the eligible expenses. Supported measures include, among others, the maintenance and preservation of collections, the acquisition of museum equipment, visitor orientation projects, as well as new presentations of the holdings. The goal is to develop and expand museum infrastructure in order to secure high-quality and publicly effective offerings in non-state museums in the long term.

Eligibility to apply exists for non-state museums under municipal, foundation, or association sponsorship that are non-profit and regularly open to the public (at least 100 opening days per year). Prerequisites include secure sponsorship, a viable collection concept, museum-appropriate premises, proven cooperation with tourism institutions, as well as a detailed marketing concept with cost and timeline plans. For new establishments, a comprehensive financing concept is required. Purely private or predominantly commercial institutions without a museum educational mandate are excluded. Applications must be submitted in triplicate by April 30 (current fiscal year) or October 31 (following calendar year) to the Museums Association Rhineland-Palatinate and are subject to the provisions of the state budget regulations as well as the current administrative directive.
