Funding objective
The goal of the program is to double the number of daily bicycle trips in Burgenland and to improve the infrastructure for everyday cycling. Funding is provided for the construction, expansion, and structural maintenance of everyday cycling routes (regional main cycling routes, regional cycling routes, public transport feeders) as well as the associated bicycle parking facilities in accordance with the quality criteria of the Cycling Master Plan.

Description
The program “Promotion of Bicycle Routes for Everyday Traffic” of the State of Burgenland sets clear impulses from 01.01.2025 to double daily bicycle trips. Municipalities in Burgenland receive grants for the construction, expansion, and structural maintenance of safe and attractive everyday bicycle routes. Funding is provided for regional main bicycle routes, regional bicycle routes, and public transport feeders, as well as accompanying bicycle parking facilities according to the quality criteria of the Cycling Master Plan. With this focus on infrastructure and urban development, the program contributes to strengthening the connectivity of settlements, public transport, and central facilities, and to establishing cycling as a reliable mobility alternative.
As a grant, the funding covers up to 60% of eligible costs – depending on the type of route between 50% and 60%. Eligible expenses include investment and material costs, personnel expenses, as well as planning and consulting costs. Non-eligible costs include, among others, costs for supply facilities, winter services, operational maintenance, and in-kind contributions. The applicant must be a municipality in Burgenland. Applications can be submitted continuously and require an informal written request, site plan, project description, cost estimate, and a signed funding agreement. Processing is handled by Department 2 – Regional Planning, Main Division Regional Planning, Division of Overall Traffic Coordination in Eisenstadt. This continuous funding line provides municipalities with reliable planning security to sustainably expand the everyday cycling network and contribute to the mobility transition.
