Description

The funding initiative supports transnational collaborative projects for the research and sustainable use of marine, coastal, and polar ecosystems under the umbrella of the national strategy "Research for Sustainability" as well as the research program MARE:N – Coastal, Marine, and Polar Research for Sustainability. The goal is to develop innovative solutions for the protection and resource-efficient use of the world's oceans. Civil society actors, science, politics, and industry are involved in partnership. Eligible for funding are companies, universities, as well as public and private research institutions from multiple countries. Joint projects aim to advance climate protection, biodiversity conservation, and circular economy in the marine context to develop policy and business recommendations.

The grant is provided as a non-repayable subsidy. Applications are submitted in the form of thematic calls with fixed deadlines – for example, within the framework of the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership (SBEP) by 17.11.2025 or in the field of coastal engineering by 18.11.2024. A prerequisite for funding is cooperation with partners in at least two countries, a clear focus on marine sustainability research, and the active participation of society, science, politics, and business. The project sponsor is Projektträger Jülich (PtJ), which provides comprehensive support from conception through evaluation to disbursement as a certified service provider (DIN EN ISO 9001:2015, ISO 27001). This funding strengthens international cooperation and makes an important contribution to the preservation and future safeguarding of the oceans.
