Description

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports highly innovative and high-risk collaborative projects in the field of high-performance computing (HPC) within the framework of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking. The goal is to strengthen the European research and innovation landscape through cooperation among companies, universities, and non-university research institutions with operations in Germany. Funding is provided for "Research and Innovation Action" as well as "Innovation Action" projects that would not be feasible without financial support and that make a significant contribution to the High-Tech Strategy 2025. The application process takes place annually in a two-stage procedure: first, a project outline must be submitted; following a positive evaluation, the formal application is then submitted via the electronic system easy-Online. Calls for proposals are regularly published by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, with specific deadlines indicated in the respective announcements.

The funding is granted as a non-repayable grant and covers 50% to 100% of eligible costs depending on the type of institution and company size. All German partners in the consortium must make a substantial contribution to the project outcome and demonstrate the added value of their research results through a demonstrator or a concrete application. A prerequisite for disbursement is, among other things, a valid cooperation agreement between the participating partners. Companies of all sizes, universities, and non-university research institutions selected as partners in the EuroHPC JU and meeting the criteria of the funding announcement may apply for funding and thus fully exploit the potential of HPC technologies for demanding, forward-looking applications.
