Water Management Projects

The funding program of the state of Saxony-Anhalt supports municipal corporations, special-purpose associations, water and soil associations, as well as public institutions in the planning and implementation of water management projects. The focus is on the construction and modernization of municipal water supply and wastewater disposal facilities, waterway construction measures on secondary water bodies, as well as research and development projects aimed at optimizing water management. Furthermore, the program promotes measures to increase energy efficiency in public drinking water and wastewater facilities. The objective is to improve service quality and supply security, reduce the fee burden on the population, and lower CO₂ emissions. Funding is provided as a non-repayable grant and is exclusively aimed at public institutions in Saxony-Anhalt.

Eligible expenses must amount to at least EUR 50,000 per investment project (EUR 25,000 for water constructions on secondary water bodies). The maximum funding rate depends on the measure and can be up to 80% of the eligible costs. Investments by commercial enterprises are excluded. The two-stage application process begins with a project pre-registration at the Saxony-Anhalt State Administration Office; following a positive assessment by the responsible ministry, the formal application can be submitted. Required documents include the funding application (RZWas 2016), the specific annexes for water supply and wastewater projects, as well as the draft according to REWas 1992 including an explanatory report. Ongoing submission opportunities allow for flexible project planning and timely implementation in light of current environmental and climate protection requirements. Interested public bodies in Saxony-Anhalt can continuously access funds to advance sustainable water management solutions.
