Funding of Scientific Institutions

The “Support for Scientific Institutions” of the State of Lower Austria is aimed at educational institutions and non-profit organizations based or located in Lower Austria that make a significant contribution to the region’s science and research landscape. Universities, universities of applied sciences, as well as non-university, non-profit research institutions may submit applications for grants to cover their ongoing operational costs at any time. The measure supports projects and institutions that align with the goals of the FTI Strategy of Lower Austria and the Higher Education Strategy, thereby promoting long-term innovation, knowledge transfer, and excellent research in the region.

The approval process includes, among other aspects, the assessment of relevance to the science and research location of Lower Austria as well as the contribution to the state’s strategic objectives. Funding prerequisites include being located in Lower Austria, having particular significance for the regional research landscape, and alignment with the FTI and Higher Education strategies. The grants are intended to cover operating expenses and actively contribute to strengthening the local research network. Continuous application submission without deadlines allows for flexible planning and rapid implementation. The Department of Science and Research of the Lower Austrian State Government oversees the awarding process, ensuring transparency and cost-effectiveness. The funded institutions commit to transparently presenting their results and the use of funds in the annual Lower Austria Science Report, thereby fulfilling public information obligations.
