Funding objective
The funding is intended for the establishment and operation of national park organizations for international recognition according to the criteria of IUCN Category II, for the protection and preservation of near-natural and scenically valuable areas, for the conservation of representative landscape types including near-natural cultural landscapes and their fauna and flora, as well as for enabling the experience of these areas for educational and recreational purposes.

Description
The funding initiative supports national park associations and administrations in the Vienna area as well as in other federal states in the long-term safeguarding and operation of protected areas of national and international significance. Since 01.01.2013, the federal government has been participating within the framework of Art. 15a B-VG with continuously applicable grants to finance non-profit organizations, public institutions, and enterprises. Eligible for funding are all legal entities whose annual programs and projects are consistent with the National Park Strategy Austria 2020+. A resolution by general assemblies, curatoria, or boards, as well as a prudent and transparent use of funds by the national park administration, constitute essential prerequisites.
The funds serve the establishment and operation according to the criteria of IUCN Category II. The focus is on the preservation of near-natural cultural landscapes, the protection of fauna and flora, as well as the facilitation of attractive educational and recreational offerings. Eligible expenses include land acquisition, contractual nature conservation, personnel costs, species protection measures, natural space management, research and educational activities, public relations, as well as visitor services and infrastructure. The goal is a sustainable development of the national parks that preserves representative landscape types, improves environmental quality, and supports climate protection.
