Description

The ongoing funding initiative of the State of Styria is committed to the preservation and sustainable further development of cultural heritage in regional museums. Non-profit organizations and public institutions with a content-related connection to Styria may apply for a grant at any time – it is recommended to submit the application three to six months before the project start. The funding supports museums and collection-like institutions in preserving collection holdings according to defined quality criteria, digitally inventorying them, and making them accessible to the public. Eligible expenses include, among others, the acquisition of display cases, technical museum equipment, storage and archive facilities, as well as preventive conservation and restoration of objects. The creation of exhibition catalogs, provenance research, educational concepts, and sustainable digital projects such as museum websites are also supported. However, construction measures, ongoing personnel and operating costs, advertising expenses, or database purchases are not funded.

The funding conditions require secured sponsorship, regular opening hours, a comprehensible concept, and adequate staffing. Applicants must also demonstrate legal and financial security and submit a detailed cost and financing model. Evaluation criteria include the degree of innovation, quality of the concept, collection focuses, and the specific connection to Styrian cultural heritage. Upon project completion, a usage report must be submitted within three months to verify the proper use of funds. The goal is to ensure a balanced museum offering in all regions that preserves historical holdings and transfers them into contemporary presentation and educational formats.
