Description
With the funding for international climate finance, the Republic of Austria provides continuous grant financing to public administrations, implementing organizations, and NGOs on site in partner countries of the Global South. The coordination office in Vienna ensures unlimited funding availability without a budget ceiling; applications can be submitted at any time. The aim is to strengthen climate protection and adaptation projects in developing and emerging countries and to advance the transition towards climate-resilient and climate-neutral economic systems. Funding is provided both for contributions to multilateral funds such as the Green Climate Fund or the Adaptation Fund and for bilateral programs that directly involve implementing partners on site. Thanks to ongoing submission opportunities, applicants can flexibly and demand-oriented apply for measures in the fields of environmental and nature conservation, energy efficiency, development cooperation, agriculture, and rural development.
To ensure sustainability and effectiveness, project proposals must be consistent with the Austrian strategy for international climate finance and the requirements of the UNFCCC. Transparent use of funds with multiplier effects, activation of private financial flows, and full ODA eligibility are essential prerequisites. Full recognition as an Austrian contribution to international climate finance is also guaranteed. Furthermore, synergies with the national priorities of the host countries, existing infrastructures, and qualified implementing organizations must be demonstrated. A particular focus is placed on cooperation with smallholder and indigenous communities as well as the promotion of women in rural areas. At the same time, all measures should avoid negative environmental impacts and maximize positive effects on biodiversity, socioeconomics, and gender equality.
