Description
Since 2019, the Villa ganZ Dicke-Osmers Foundation for intergenerational alternative neighborhood living has been promoting social housing in Hanover and the surrounding area (Lower Saxony). As a non-profit initiative, rent-controlled social housing units are allocated to private individuals holding a valid housing entitlement certificate who have lived in the state capital for at least one year. Applicants describe their individual housing emergency and actively participate in three working meetings as well as community events organized by the building group. In a multi-stage selection process, the foundation first decides, followed by the building group, on admission. The goal is to create affordable housing within cooperative neighborhoods that foster participation, inclusion, and intergenerational coexistence.
With ongoing funding opportunities, the foundation supports projects in the fields of housing construction & modernization, social affairs, infrastructure & urban development, as well as work & social issues. Funding is provided in the form of grants and targets low-income households with a committed community spirit. After mutual positive approval, a legally binding rental agreement is concluded. Conditions for funding include presenting the housing entitlement certificate, proof of residence in Hanover, and a convincing account of the housing emergency. The close collaboration between the foundation and the building group ensures that all participants take responsibility and benefit from one another in an open, diverse neighborhood.
