Description
The funding program Research Groups of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) supports medium-term, inter- and multidisciplinary collaborative projects at research locations in Vienna. Teams of three to five internationally outstanding researchers jointly address complex questions across disciplinary boundaries. For this purpose, the FWF provides a grant of up to €1.5 million over five years (benchmark €300,000 per year), covering 100% of project-related personnel and material costs. Eligible expenses include personnel costs, equipment, materials, travel, and other project-related expenditures. Applications must be submitted online via the elane portal by no later than September 30, 2024 (2:00 p.m. Vienna local time) in English and require approval by the host research institution. Part-time employment can be increased to 100% if needed.
The program is aimed at teams from all disciplines – particularly from the humanities, social sciences, and cultural studies – who wish to develop innovative research projects or newly establish research priorities at Austrian institutes. At least one third of the subproject leaders must belong to the underrepresented gender to promote equal opportunities and diversity. Each consortium develops a common methodology and strengthens national as well as international networks. Evaluation is based on criteria such as degree of innovation, scientific quality, gender and ethics aspects, and relevance to the Austrian science system. Interested researchers can prepare and submit projects on https://elane.fwf.ac.at in a timely manner to advance their pioneering ideas through excellent collaboration.
