Description

The European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (GFCNI) promotes innovative research collaborations in neonatology and related disciplines. Educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and companies from the EU can submit grant applications on an ongoing basis. From study planning through patient recruitment and stakeholder engagement to multilingual dissemination, GFCNI supports projects that deliver scientifically sound and practice-relevant results. The needs of families and professional audiences are central: quality of life and patient-reported outcomes are collected using qualitative and quantitative methods and incorporated into evidence-based recommendations. Collaborations with clinical partners and civil society actors ensure broad participation and sustainable impact of the research findings.

Eligible actors work together on studies that create real added value and achieve international visibility. Evaluation criteria such as scientific relevance, patient orientation, and a convincing dissemination concept form the basis for a successful application. The program enables close partnerships among academia, clinics, and patient representatives to cover all phases from concept development to knowledge transfer. The goal is to integrate scientific insights into concrete improvements in care and political decision-making processes through strategic networks. Interested institutions are encouraged to apply with interdisciplinary teams to strengthen healthcare for newborns and their families across Europe.
