Description

A grant program of the State of Hesse supports private and public forest owners as well as recognized forestry associations in measures for initial afforestation, close-to-nature forest management, forestry infrastructure, and the management of calamities. Funding is provided, among other things, for the establishment of new forest areas, forest conversion, young stand maintenance, soil protection liming, and the expansion of trail networks. Applications in the areas A1, B2, B3, B4, B6, and D1 must be submitted by March 1 or September 1 via the online portal of the Wirtschafts- und Infrastrukturbank Hessen; for preparatory work, low-impact timber extraction, and other area-specific measures (B1, B5, C1–C6, D2), applications can be submitted year-round. Traffic safety measures in cases of imminent danger must be reported immediately, and no later than 14 days after the hazard has been eliminated, by notification to the Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt.

A prerequisite for funding is the ownership of forestry land in Hesse, compliance with applicable binding periods, and a professional statement by a person qualified in forestry or nature conservation. Associations must be recognized as forestry cooperatives, while legal entities with at least 25% federal or state ownership are excluded. Applicants submit their funding application via the WIBank agricultural portal and attach the required forms according to the guidelines, a location map (scale 1:10,000 or 1:25,000), and, if applicable, the notification for traffic safety. The amount of the grant is determined by the type and scope of the project and is financed from ELER, GAK, and state budget funds to promote a climate-adapted, efficient, and sustainably managed forest in Hesse.
