Description

The Friedrich and Isabel Vogel Prize honors outstanding contributions in economic journalism in the categories Print/Online (including podcasts), Radio/Podcast, and Television. Awards are given for individual achievements as well as team efforts published in German-language, nationally distributed media between May 1 of the previous year and April 30 of the award year. Self-nominations or third-party proposals are permitted; series are excluded. Evaluation criteria include the originality of the topic, quality of research, linguistic excellence with narrative tension, and clarity in explaining economic contexts. The prize money amounts to €3,000 and is intended to support the education and further training of economic journalists and to promote journalistic work that contributes to the advancement of a social market economy and makes economic topics accessible to a broad public.

Eligible participants are full-time and freelance journalists as well as editorial teams; for the complementary scholarship program, journalists up to 35 years of age, trainees, and emerging talents qualify. Application materials include the submitted contribution, a brief personal statement on its creation, a curriculum vitae, and—for scholarships—an exposé with a budget and research plan as well as up to three work samples. TV and radio contributions that are not freely accessible online must additionally be submitted on three data carriers. The awarding decision is made by the Board of Trustees of the Friedrich and Isabel Vogel Foundation; there is no legal entitlement to funding. The next submission deadline is April 30 each year (September 30 for audiovisual contributions). Narrative tension, research, and clarity are at the heart of this prestigious award for economic journalism.
