Description

The Fritz Scheler Scholarship of the KfH Foundation for Preventive Medicine honors outstanding early-career researchers every two years who are engaged in innovative projects related to preventive medical care in nephrology. It is endowed with €25,000 and is aimed at habilitating and postdoctoral early-career scientists from all over Germany. Named after Prof. Dr. med. Dr. jur. h. c. Fritz Scheler, a pioneer in nephrology, the prize money supports projects that make an exemplary contribution to the early detection, education, and prevention of chronic kidney diseases. Selection criteria include the expected impact on preventive care, the scientific originality and quality of the methodology, as well as feasibility in the clinical setting.

The award is presented within the framework of the biennial congress of the German Society of Nephrology (DGfN). Eligible to participate are individuals who have submitted a research project with a clear focus on nephrological preventive medicine. The jury particularly evaluates the benefit for patients at increased risk of kidney failure as well as the innovativeness of the project. This award not only strengthens scientific potential but also promotes interdisciplinary cooperation and knowledge transfer between research institutions and clinics. Successful applicants gain access to professional support from nephrology experts and can present their results to a broad professional audience, with the long-term goal of establishing improved care for at-risk patients in Germany.
