Description
The allocation guideline for municipal housing in Graz (Styria) enables the free and indefinite provision of city apartments for socially needy individuals and households. The aim of this in-kind benefit is the long-term securing of housing supply for low-income citizens whose net household income does not exceed predefined income limits and who do not possess sufficient assets to independently procure housing. The funding is provided as a one hundred percent grant and is not budgeted, allowing applications to be submitted at any time. The needs assessment is based on a points system that, in addition to income, particularly considers the duration of residence or employment in Graz. An indefinite tenancy at affordable rents provides tenants with planning security and contributes to the social integration and urban development goals of the City of Graz.
Eligible for funding are Austrian citizens, EU/EWR citizens, as well as individuals with indefinite asylum status aged 18 and over, who have lived or worked continuously for at least one year or a total of 15 years in Graz, and all persons belonging to the household have been registered at the same address for at least two years. The annual net household income must not exceed, for example, €40,800 for one person, €61,200 for two persons, and an additional €5,400 for each further person. Required documents for the application include, among others, photo identification, income statements, rental contract, certificates of disability or imminent loss of housing, and, if applicable, divorce decrees. Submission can be made either digitally via an online form or in writing to the municipal housing authority Wohnen Graz without any deadline. Cooperation with other social services and regular renovations of the properties ensure modern and barrier-free housing quality.
