Description

The Graz Old Town Preservation Fund promotes nationwide renovation measures on protected buildings in the six old town conservation zones of Graz through non-repayable grants. Eligible applicants are private individuals, companies, and non-profit organizations who are owners of the respective properties. The objective is the preservation of the external appearance as well as the structural substance and fabric. Applications are submitted electronically before the start of construction, there is no deadline, and grants cover the additional costs incurred according to the Graz Old Town Preservation Act. Funding is tiered according to the scope of costs and eligibility and is based on guidelines for façades, wooden windows, and other building elements.

In particular, property owners, citizens, and non-profit organizations planning measures on façades, wooden windows, front gardens, or structural interior installations affecting the external appearance are addressed. A prerequisite is proof of the additional costs (§ 1 para. 1 GAEG 2008), a restoration assessment, and a positive report from the Old Town Expert Commission. Eligible expenses include façade renovation, replacement or refurbishment of wooden windows, de-sealing of front gardens, and interior work that shapes the overall appearance. The order of approval depends on the timely receipt of the application as well as the scope and urgency of the measures. Ongoing submission allows flexible project planning and long-term preservation of the historic cityscape.
