Description

The Gunter Ullrich Prize for Art Education 2026 invites teachers at general education schools in Aschaffenburg to collaboratively develop artistic perspectives on the life and work of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner with their students. Under the guiding theme “Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Reloaded 2025,” creative projects are encouraged that reinterpret the biography and oeuvre of the Expressionist born in Aschaffenburg. The aim is to inspire young people to engage with current questions in art history and to develop their own artistic positions. The call for submissions highlights Kirchner’s development between the German Empire, World War I, the Weimar Republic, and National Socialism, opening space for contemporary artistic exploration. The deadline for all submissions is March 15, 2026.

A five-member jury, newly strengthened by the artist and art mediator Jennifer Maus, will honor outstanding concepts and works with prize money totaling €1,500. Of this, the art department of the school with the best project will receive €1,000, while students will be awarded €500 for individual or group works. The awarded works will be exhibited at the KirchnerHAUS Museum Aschaffenburg and, together with works by Gunter Ullrich, will form the framework of a public presentation. The Gunter Ullrich Foundation Aschaffenburg thus promotes creative education, encourages art educational engagement with regional cultural heritage, and simultaneously honors the contributions of its namesake to the Aschaffenburg cultural scene.
