Description
The Gunter Ullrich Prize for Art Education, awarded every two years by the Gunter Ullrich Foundation Aschaffenburg, honors innovative and artistically high-quality teaching projects at general education schools in the Aschaffenburg area. It commemorates the dedicated work of the graphic artist and painter Gunter Ullrich, who introduced unconventional art instruction after World War II and shaped the chronicle of his home region. The competition aims to encourage art educators at grammar schools and vocational secondary schools (FOSBOS) to inspire young people for the subject of art, promote their creative competence, and integrate creative teaching approaches into everyday school life. The award emphasizes the importance of artistic education in Bavaria and contributes to networking schools, teachers, and cultural institutions.
Awarded projects receive a prize of €1,000 and are presented in a public exhibition. An independent expert jury evaluates submissions based on artistic quality, degree of innovation, and presentation ability, thereby showcasing exemplary teaching concepts. Realized art projects from the school year at Aschaffenburg grammar schools and FOSBOS must be submitted by the deadline of March 15, 2026. The announcement of the winners and the exhibition opening take place in the summer of the following year, enabling the foundation to make outstanding achievements by art teachers accessible to a broad public and further strengthen awareness of cultural education.
