Description
The Hamburg Green Roof Funding supports owners and leasehold holders of residential and non-residential buildings as well as associated ancillary buildings and infrastructure structures in Hamburg in voluntary roof and façade greening. The aim is the ecological and aesthetic enhancement of urban buildings, the improvement of the microclimate, the increase of water retention, and the creation of new habitats for people and animals. The grant provides a one-time subsidy of up to €100,000 per building and applies to both new construction projects and existing buildings, provided the green area requirements (e.g., net vegetation area of at least 20 m² on roofs or at least 10 m² for wall-bound façade greening) are met. Applications can be submitted at any time before the start of the measure and are processed continuously.
Funding covers 40% to 60% of eligible costs, including construction and material costs from the upper edge of the roof waterproofing, completion maintenance, substructures for solar systems, root protection layers, structural measures, as well as retention and evaporative cooling measures. PV modules and solar thermal collectors are not eligible for funding. The exact funding rate depends on the type of applicant: private self-users and condominium owners receive a flat rate of 60% of costs; small, medium, and large enterprises receive 60%, 50%, and 40%, respectively. To apply, the completed application form, cost estimates, proof of ownership or leasehold, a site plan, and specialist planning documents must be submitted. By combining funding for green roofs and façades, the program makes an important contribution to climate protection, biodiversity, and sustainable urban development in Hamburg.
