Description

The Hamburg Masterplan ESD 2030 program offers an annual budget of €262,000 for innovative projects aimed at the structural integration of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) across all educational sectors in Hamburg. Funding is provided to stakeholders from early childhood education, schools, vocational training, higher education, non-formal education, as well as district administrations based in Hamburg with demonstrated professional ESD expertise. In a two-stage process, project outlines (max. 2 DIN A4 pages) must first be submitted, presenting objectives, implementation steps, an overview of financing, and the applicant’s competence. Following a positive evaluation by the steering committee, a full funding application with a detailed financial plan (material, personnel, and fee costs) and proof of authorization to represent the applicant must be submitted. Project durations of up to twelve months are funded, covering 100% of eligible expenses (personnel, fees, material costs). Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis; deadlines can be found on the Hamburg Climate Protection Foundation’s website. The coordination office provides information on current calls and is available for consultation.

Selection criteria include relevance to the respective educational sector, contribution to the transformation process, the scope of the measure, and transferability to other contexts. Special emphasis is placed on approaches that integrate ESD into curricula following a Whole-Institution Approach, strengthen cooperation structures, and qualify educational actors at all levels. To ensure the program’s sustainability, scientific support, annual monitoring, and centralized public relations are provided. Upon project completion, results must be submitted in the form of a usage report and a report on impact and sustainability. This Masterplan makes a significant contribution to implementing the SDG Agenda 2030 in Hamburg and promotes a future-oriented educational culture.
