Description
The community fund Hamburger Spielräume of the BürgerStiftung Hamburg has been supporting projects in open child and youth work in socially disadvantaged areas of the Hanseatic city since 2020. The aim is to provide children and young people with spaces for play, encounters, and communal experiences. Funding is provided for leisure and cultural activities, creative workshops, nature experiences, excursions, as well as multi-day short trips. Projects are characterized by participatory educational approaches and enable young people to contribute their ideas and experience self-efficacy. This charitable program particularly supports smaller organizations that reach disadvantaged target groups and families and strengthen participation opportunities and social skills through low-threshold offers.
Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, associations, or initiatives based in Hamburg engaged in extracurricular child and youth work. Applications must include a brief project description, a financing plan, proof of non-profit status, and bank details. Financial grants are provided as subsidies of up to 3,000 euros for day and holiday activities or up to 3,500 euros for measures including overnight stays; applications can be submitted once annually per organization for two funding rounds (from 04.02.2025 and from 01.07.2025). Selection is based on criteria such as need in disadvantaged neighborhoods, openness, and opportunities for participation. Further details on the application process can be found in the guideline and the 2025 call for proposals of the BürgerStiftung Hamburg.
