Description

The Hamburg District Culture Award annually honors outstanding cultural projects in Hamburg’s neighborhoods that impress through innovative concepts, solid implementation, and tangible resonance. Associations, non-profit initiatives, and advocacy groups can apply with already completed project results, provided these took place in Hamburg and demonstrate their exemplary character for other districts. An independent jury awards the main prize of €10,000 based on the quality of the content design, proof of a successful project course, and the potential to serve as an impetus for local cultural work. Since 2024, interested parties can also participate in an online vote to cast their vote for the audience award of €2,000, thereby actively shaping the projects.

Applications are possible until January 5, 2026 and are aimed at culture- and media-oriented organizations committed to social cohesion, democracy education, or integration-promoting measures. The funding is provided as a grant and aims to strengthen cultural participation and provide impulses for comparable initiatives in other districts. The prize sponsors – including the Hamburg Cultural Foundation, the Authority for Culture and Media, and the Patriotic Society of 1765 – support engagement in the fields of culture, work & social affairs, as well as social integration through this award. Interested parties can find detailed participation conditions and quality criteria on the official program page.
