Description

Call for proposals within Horizon Europe: This EU grant opportunity targets companies, educational institutions, non-profit and public organizations within the EU as well as associated countries, promoting research and innovation in marine biotechnology. The objective is the development of safe, sustainable blue bio-products by leveraging the unique properties of marine organisms. The focus lies on ecological sustainability, circular economy, and biodiversity protection. With a 100% funding rate, a project volume of up to €5 million can be realized over 36 months. Applicants must have experience in transnational R&D consortia, possess adequate administrative capacities for Horizon Europe projects, and be legally established in EU member states or associated countries. Eligible costs include personnel expenses, consumables and materials, travel costs, subcontractor services, as well as equipment and infrastructure.

Evaluation is based on innovation content, sustainability and biodiversity aspects, regulatory and safety requirements, market acceptance, and quality of project implementation. Retroactive costs, expenses for commercial mass production, and debt refinancing are not eligible. Applications including Part B project description, financial and budget plan, CVs of key personnel, ethics self-assessment, and PIC verification can be submitted until 17 September 2026. Projects may start no earlier than 1 October 2026. This funding instrument strengthens Europe’s competitiveness through green bioprocesses, bioinformatic and digital approaches, and fosters synergies with strategic infrastructures such as EMSO ERIC or ELIXIR.
