Helmut Strack Prize (Helmut Strack Foundation)

Since 2001, the Helmut Strack Foundation has annually honored clubs, schools, kindergartens, and non-profit institutions in Aachen that demonstrate outstanding commitment to the children's carnival. The Helmut Strack Prize, endowed with 1,500 euros, supports initiatives for costume creation, dance training, or the acquisition of throwing materials. The award primarily recognizes projects that enable children from all social and societal backgrounds to participate in the traditional children's costume parade of the Aachen Fairy Tale Prince. The foundation places great emphasis on sustainable youth work in carnival traditions and on the integration of dedicated participants from all districts of Aachen.

Eligible for funding are non-profit clubs, educational institutions, and interest groups based or active in Aachen. Applications can be submitted year-round, with the award ceremony taking place during the children's costume festival. Evaluation criteria include the intensity of engagement in the children's carnival, the involvement of youth groups, and openness to children from all social backgrounds. The earmarked prize money supports both established carnival groups and schools and kindergartens wishing to participate in the Aachen children's carnival for the first time. This award not only strengthens the vibrant preservation of a regional tradition but also sends a signal for lived community and cultural participation of young Aachen residents.
