University Gem

The Hochschulperle recognizes small, innovative projects at universities on a monthly basis and brings them into the spotlight of the nationwide scientific community. As an award without a time limit, educational institutions can continuously submit proposals as long as the model project has been implemented at the university. A jury of experts evaluates the submissions based on their level of innovation, exemplary character, and transferability to other institutions. From the twelve monthly pearls, a public vote selects the annual pearl – accompanied by a prize of €3,000 for the outstanding concept. The award specifically promotes the exchange of successful approaches and contributes to research, teaching, and knowledge transfer throughout Germany.

The program is aimed at universities and their scientific institutions that develop exemplary pilot projects for education, research, and innovation. The goal is to make such initiatives visible in order to inspire other universities and achieve sustainable transfer into teaching and practice. Applications can be submitted easily via informal contact or through a standardized online application form. The selection ensures that awarded projects have exemplary character and find application across various disciplines. With the Hochschulperle, the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft e. V., as a think tank and network, supports the further development of universities and helps to strengthen innovation capacity and future competencies within the higher education landscape.
