Horse-Drawn Timber Extraction promotes traditional and particularly environmentally friendly timber harvesting methods in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's forests. The objective is to strengthen close-to-nature forest management through the use of draft horses, thereby supporting soil protection and biodiversity. As a subsidy, the state grants an amount of EUR 4.00 per harvested solid cubic meter, but at least EUR 250.00 per calendar year, economically reinforcing the use of sustainable methods. The funds are allocated within the thematic scope of Agriculture & Rural Development, Environmental/Nature Conservation, as well as Energy Efficiency & Climate Protection, thus achieving diverse positive effects for climate and resource conservation.

Eligible for funding are companies based in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that offer timber extraction as a service and implement the use of horses on the state's forest areas. The granting of the subsidy is conditional upon timber harvesting being carried out with horses and compliance with nature conservation requirements. Applications are accepted annually until October 1 and must be submitted to the State Forestry Authority of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The application process supports the regional forestry authority in strengthening local economic forces while simultaneously contributing to climate and nature conservation.
