Description
The scholarship program Horizonte supports teacher training students with a migration background at the University of Hamburg on their path to entering the teaching profession. It promotes professional and personal development over a period of up to 24 months. Scholars receive a monthly financial allowance between €300 and €992, which is based on individual living costs and granted independently of parental income. Additionally, the program includes a wide range of training seminars on topics such as classroom management, conflict resolution, and parental involvement, as well as regular tutorials and individual coaching. This non-material support creates space for exchange, reflection, and the building of a sustainable network among like-minded peers. Furthermore, seminar and workshop costs can be covered, and project-related stays abroad can be subsidized.
The offer is aimed at teacher training students from the 1st bachelor to the 3rd master semester at the University of Hamburg who identify as persons with a migration background and demonstrate good to very good academic performance. Expected are initial pedagogical experiences, social or familial engagement, as well as verifiable German language skills of at least level B1. Applications can be submitted online from May 18 to June 28, 2026. Required are a completed application form, academic transcripts, two letters of recommendation (academic and social), and proof of German language proficiency. Selection is based on academic achievements, motivation for the teaching profession, migration background, and engagement. Horizonte not only provides financial support but also empowers prospective teachers to commit sustainably to equitable and discrimination-critical learning environments.
