Housing First Hamburg

Housing First Hamburg enables homeless individuals or those threatened by loss of housing in Hamburg to gain direct access to their own, long-term secured rental apartments according to the proven Housing First principle. Through indefinite housing provision, the program creates a stable foundation upon which further support services can build. Support is provided flexibly and needs-oriented: social workers and professionals are available to assist with overcoming individual challenges – from daily life organization and psychological stabilization to networking with additional support services. Admission is ongoing, allowing new participants to be integrated into the project at any time. As individual case assistance in the form of a non-material grant, Housing First Hamburg promotes a self-determined fresh start and strengthens participation in social life.

The model project is funded as an unbureaucratic immediate aid for private individuals for indefinite housing provision for people who have become homeless. The prerequisite is homelessness as well as a permanent residence in Hamburg. The goal is to create sustainable perspectives and to break the cycle of homelessness. Through cooperation between foundations, the housing industry, and the Diakonie, the offer is comprehensively supported and continuously developed. Interested parties can apply informally and receive all necessary information about the procedure directly from the project sponsors. Housing First Hamburg thus contributes to curbing homelessness in the Hanseatic city and realizing safe living spaces for people in need.
