Description
In Brandenburg, a hybrid, tablet-supported educational program is available that methodically guides school classes from the 9th grade onwards as well as groups from extracurricular youth work at three historical sites: the Sachsenhausen Special Camp, the Brandenburg-Görden Prison, and the Potsdam-Leistikowstraße Remand Prison. Participants explore the biographies of German and Soviet prisoners (1945–1956) using an interactive learning app and employ digital research tools to analyze photos, documents, and objects on site. The format combines app modules with workshops accompanied by memorial education professionals, lasts a total of five hours, and is aimed at groups of 10–30 people. Registration through one of the three memorial sites is possible at any time. Eligible for funding are educational institutions and non-profit organizations that wish to utilize sponsorship for historical education and digitization.*
The program aims to strengthen historical-political competence through confident handling of sources and to provide detailed insights into Soviet imprisonment practices after World War II. During the workshops, participants take on investigative roles, develop methodological skills, discuss controversial memory-political issues, and formulate a reasoned position, for example within the framework of a debate about street names. By merging digital tools and memorial education, the program promotes the ability to comprehend complex historical contexts and raises young people's awareness of the significance of historical journalists and monument preservation in the present day.
