Description
The Horizon Europe funding measure “Impact of access to nature-positive environments in promoting social cohesion and reducing inequalities in urban and peri-urban settings” supports research into the interrelations between access to high-quality green and blue spaces in urban and peri-urban areas and their contribution to social justice, community cohesion, and resilience. With a funding volume of EUR 3–4 million per project and a funding rate of up to 100%, the grant enables interdisciplinary consortia from research institutions, public actors, civil society organizations, as well as environmental/climate protection NGOs to develop innovative strategies for nature access. The funding areas range from environmental and climate protection to urban planning and infrastructure, as well as social cohesion and research & innovation. Within a single-stage procedure, at least three independent partners from three EU Member States or Associated Countries must collaborate and possess expertise in social sciences, urban planning, and environmental sciences. Close cooperation with municipal administrations and civil society actors is mandatory to develop practical solutions for disadvantaged urban neighborhoods.
The funding objective includes the systematic investigation of how access to nature reduces inequalities and strengthens social cohesion. From identifying cultural and socioeconomic barriers to measuring impacts at the community level and involving local businesses and social economy actors, the research projects cover all relevant aspects. Special tasks include the development of quantitative distribution models for green/blue spaces and the consideration of non-market values in urban planning. A gender-sensitive and intersectional approach to analyzing differentiated access is a mandatory component of every proposal outline. The submission deadline is 23 September 2027.
