Description
The project "Learning Instruments in Primary School (Igel)" by the BürgerStiftung Alfeld is aimed at second graders from all primary schools in Alfeld as well as students of the Erich Kästner School, bridging the gap between playful learning success and professional training. In cooperation with the local music school, instrumental lessons and singing are offered without any prior musical knowledge. Recorder, glockenspiel, and percussion instruments form the focus, along with group singing. At the end of the ten-month funding period, participants present their acquired skills in a final concert in the auditorium of the Alfeld Gymnasium. The goal is to sustainably support the children's academic development through the proven positive effects of music on cognitive and social abilities.
The BürgerStiftung Alfeld provides this funding as a non-profit organization, covering 100% of tuition fees and materials through grants. Applications can be submitted continuously, with registration via the respective schools being a prerequisite. The project builds on the successful continuation of KiGamaMu (Kindergarten Makes Music) and now opens access to musical basic education to a broader target group. Eligible for funding are public and educational institutions in Lower Saxony. The low-threshold concept creates an inclusive offer for all interested children: with Igel, the foundation is laid for creative, holistic personality development and cultural participation in the region is strengthened.
