Description
Within the framework of the Built4People partnership, the European Commission funds Innovative Actions with a total budget of up to €6,750,000 for the development and application of circular lifecycle assessment models for building renovations. Target groups include research and innovation actors, SMEs, construction and renovation companies, as well as municipal planning authorities from EU Member States and Horizon Europe-associated countries. Eligible applicants are companies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and public bodies active in the fields of environmental, nature, and climate protection as well as energy efficiency. The funding covers up to 70% of eligible costs, including research and development expenses, personnel costs, travel expenses, equipment costs, and subcontractor services. Applications can be submitted via the Funding & Tenders Portal until 15 September 2027.
The funding objective is the design and demonstration of a comprehensive model that evaluates various material circularity strategies in comparison to operational emissions, thus advancing the realization of net-zero carbon buildings. At least three best-practice renovation projects in different climate regions are to be integrated. Evaluation criteria include the level of innovation, sustainability, contribution to EU climate goals, as well as the quality and complementarity of consortium partners. For a successful application, among other documents, the application form, project description, dissemination and exploitation plan, and the CV of the project leader are required. Selection takes place through a single-stage procedure with a single deadline; upon positive evaluation, reviewers will invite applicants to grant preparation. The funding strengthens forward-looking methods that combine resource efficiency and climate neutrality in the building sector.
