Description

International Nikolaus Fheodoroff Composition Prize is a biennial music award of the State of Carinthia honoring the work of Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Fheodoroff (1931–2011). It is aimed at composers of all nationalities and age groups who submit an as yet unpublished work of 10–15 minutes duration for the category “Instrumental & optional Electronics” (piano for 1–2 players, percussion, accordion, double bass, and optional electronics). The prize money of €15,000 recognizes innovative contributions to contemporary musical language and promotes the acceptance of new compositions by the public. The award is granted based on the recommendation of an independent expert jury, which evaluates, in addition to innovation, contemporaneity, and artistic quality, especially the suitability for a world premiere within the framework of the “Carinthian Summer” festival.

Applications will be accepted online or by PDF until April 30, 2026, at the Office of the Carinthian State Government, Department 14 – Arts and Culture. Submissions must include an anonymized work with a commentary, a completed application form, and a curriculum vitae; all nationalities and ages are eligible to participate, and only one work per person may be submitted. The award ceremony will take place in summer 2027, and the world premiere of the awarded work will be supported by the State of Carinthia with up to €16,000. All personal data will be processed automatically in accordance with the GDPR and published in the transparency database based on the Carinthian Cultural Funding Act 2001.
