Description

The boarding place funding from the Sports Foundation NRW enables aspiring athletes residing in recognized sports boarding schools to receive financial relief for accommodation costs. The support limits individual boarding contributions to a maximum of €300 per month and grants funding of up to €350 monthly. Eligible beneficiaries are residents from 8th grade until graduation who hold a youth squad status in Olympic, Paralympic, Deaflympic, or World Games sports. In addition to covering costs, the program includes psychoeducational training through the Mental Talent Initiative to sustainably promote mental strength and performance. With ongoing funding opportunities, it starts from February 1, 2025, thereby providing reliable support over several school years.

Applications can be submitted by April 30 for funding starting in August and by October 31 for a start in February. Evaluation is conducted by an expert committee, which makes funding decisions following professional confirmation by the boarding school management and state association. Eligible expenses include both boarding costs and psychoeducational services. The maximum duration extends until the next school graduation and depends on the individual educational path. With approximately 150 funding places per allocation cycle, the program creates ideal conditions to optimally combine academic education and competitive sports and to sustainably support the next generation of inspiring role models in North Rhine-Westphalian elite sports.
