Funding objective
The goal is the promotion | co-financing of economically relevant cross-border projects that have an impact in the Italian-Austrian program area, particularly in Carinthia. These projects strengthen the regional innovation ecosystem and capacities for research, technology, and innovation. As a result, the performance and competitiveness of the Carinthian location increase. This promotion | co-financing of cross-border initiatives by the KWF is based on the Interreg VI-A Italy-Austria 2021-2027 program. Additionally, an assessment is made regarding the extent to which the project contributes to implementation or aligns with the regional strategy (KWF strategy).

Description
Interreg Italien.KOMBI offers an ongoing opportunity to co-finance cross-border projects within the framework of the Interreg VI-A Italy–Austria 2021-2027 program, focusing on research, innovation, and climate change adaptation in Carinthia. Funding is provided to natural and legal persons as well as educational institutions based in Carinthia, who implement economically relevant initiatives together with Italian partners. The goal is to strengthen the regional innovation ecosystem and expand capacities for technology and research activities. With a funding rate of 25% of eligible expenses (including personnel costs, office and administrative expenses, travel and accommodation costs, external expertise, equipment, as well as infrastructure and construction work), the Carinthian Economic Promotion Fund (KWF) supports the implementation of innovative cooperations in the region.
Applications can be submitted until December 31, 2026, provided the application is made before the project start and a significant portion of the initiative is realized in Carinthia. In addition to the formal funding approval within the Interreg VI-A program, thematic alignment, level of innovation, location relevance, and impact on the innovation ecosystem are decisive evaluation criteria. Fund recipients receive support throughout the entire project implementation, from application preparation to accounting. Interested project partners can access detailed documents – including the KWF application, project data sheet, and ERDF funding application – in the KWF funding portal and thus take the next step towards strengthening international cooperation and Carinthia’s competitiveness.
