Description

The Federal Government supports the use of modern, energy-efficient, and climate-friendly refrigeration and air conditioning systems in commercial applications through the funding program "Investment Grants for Newly Installed Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems with Non-Halogenated Refrigerants." Eligible to apply are companies of all sizes, municipal and church institutions, universities, non-profit organizations, as well as hospitals and schools that newly install stationary compression and adsorption systems, liquid chillers, adiabatic condensers, or adiabatic evaporative cooling systems. Funding applications can be submitted continuously via the electronic BAFA form. In addition to the refrigeration unit, components such as deep-freeze stages, condensers and air coolers, thermal storage, piping systems, and control technology are funded, as well as professional execution planning and the integration of renewable energy sources.

A prerequisite for the 50 percent grant funding (maximum €150,000) is that the project begins only after receipt of the funding approval and compliance with technical design requirements. Investment costs for system components, execution planning, installation including commissioning, storage technology, and the integration of renewable energies are eligible for funding. Planning costs incurred before approval, in-house work, value-added tax, and costs for existing old systems are not considered. The project implementation must be completed within 24 months. To ensure a sustainable impact, there is an obligation to submit operational measurement data over five years and to carry out regular maintenance in order to secure the climate protection contribution permanently.
