Description

The mentoring program of the Jürgen Sengpiel Foundation in Hamburg is aimed at students, trainees, and refugee youth with a migration background and pursues a holistic support approach in academic, socio-emotional, and career-oriented aspects. Students who themselves come from immigrant families or socially disadvantaged urban districts undergo intensive basic training and pass on their personal experiences through one-on-one mentoring. Additionally, mentors have the opportunity to participate in subject-specific didactic training sessions. With its focus on education, integration support, and individual guidance, the project makes a sustainable contribution to equal opportunities and opens up new perspectives for future-oriented vocational training design.

Within the two-year funding period, two support formats are available: individual mentoring for close, personal guidance and integrative support courses at cooperating schools in Hamburg. Participants can be students who wish to volunteer, demonstrate their motivation and intercultural competence, and show interest in socio-emotional support. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and can be submitted informally through the foundation. Engagement, prior mentoring experience, and understanding of intercultural support needs play a central role in the selection process. By combining individual counseling and practical course offerings, the program ensures a sustainable strengthening of the young participants' self-confidence and career orientation.
